1 - What is The Bio-Burner™? TOP

The Bio-Burner™ is a multi-fuel, multi-day burner/boiler with a universal feed system. Heat energy is created by burning “untraditional” biomass fuels (dirty fuels, fine dust products, crop stover, etc.) as well as traditional (wood chips, pellets, corn, etc.) in the same unit.

2 - What makes The Bio-Burner™ different from other biomass or stick boilers?TOP

NO LONGER A WOOD SLAVE – no more chopping & storing stick wood or loading several times a day by hand
Multi-fuel (wet, dry, clean or “dirty”)

  • Woody Biomass (dust, pellets, chips, etc.)
  • Crops & Crop Stover (corn & stalks, Soybeans, other seeds & grains, grasses, tobacco, etc.)
  • Pellets (wood, grass, etc.)
  • Paper (junk mail, newspaper, cardboard, etc.)
  • Gas Backup (Propane or Natural Gas)
  • And much more

Multi-day automated fuel feeding system
Fuel Up to 40/50% moisture content
Non-catalytic and clean burning
No Sparks
No Creosote
Almost Smoke Free!
Low CO Emissions (CO² neutral)
Cyclone Emissions Filtration System
Low-Flue Temperature
Computer Controlled Combustion, Flue & Water Temperatures
Advanced Computer Controls & Safety Features
De-Coupled Heat Exchanger- eliminates the need for a “water jacket” & stainless steel
UL/CSA rated as indoor/outdoor burner (biomass & full gas back-up)
Meets requirements for CSA B415, ASTM E2618, and EPA Phase 2 under “real world” burn conditions

3 - What sizes of The Bio-Burner™ are available? TOP

BB-100 (100k BTU / 30 KW)
BB-500 (500k BTU /  150+ KW)

4 - How many square feet can The Bio-Burner™ heat? TOP

The square footage range is dependent on insulation and heat demand (climate.)
BB-100 (100k BTU / 30 KW) – up to 7,000 sq ft
BB-500 (500k BTU /  150+ KW) – up to 35,000 sq ft

5 - Most Outdoor Wood Boilers offer stainless steel – why doesn’t The Bio-Burner™? TOP

De-coupled heat exchanger= NO corrosion= NO expensive stainless steel heat exchanger or crack repair

6 - How long will a full bin of fuel last? TOP

Standard 2 Yard Bin - Up to 4 weeks *1 ton max (fuel type and heat load dependent)
Example: For an average home (2000 sq. ft.) in the Midwest climate, 2 yards of wood chips could last up to a week and 2 yards of wood pellets could last up to 4 weeks.

Bulk 11/22 Yard Bin - Up to a full heat season *5 ton max (fuel type and heat load dependent)

7 - Where do I get fuel?TOP

Use locally available biomass – woodchips/sawdust from sawmills, corn and pellets are readily available in most regions.  Check your area to see what is most available for the cheapest price.*Note fuel size limitations: B10 chip size for BB-100 & B50 chip size for BB-500.

8 - What do you mean by B10, B25, B50, G30 or G50 chip size? TOP

The numbers starting in the letter "G" come from a standard European chip size scale.  LEI Products has taken the European standard & modified it to accomidate their new biomass buring technology. These numbers start with the letter "B". Below are some quick references (PDF).

9 - What size fuel do I need and how do I process it? TOP

BB-100 - up to B10 chip size
BB-500 - up to B50 chip size

LEI Products also manufactures a Fuel Processing/drying System (BB-FPS)
A good example of a 3rd Party wood chipper capable of producing B10 chips is the – Farmi/Valby CH260 Wood Chipper which can be found at www.farmiwoodchippers.com

10 - What fuels are approved for The Bio-Burner™? TOP

The Bio-Burner™ is capable of burning most solid biomass (in the correct size and form), but not all fuels are approved under The Bio-Burner warranty.
Tested and approved fuels include: wood chips, sawdust, wood pellets, corn
*EPA Testing done with wood pellets

11 - What is the approved moisture content range for fuel? TOP

BB-100 – up to 40%, peak efficiency 25%
BB-500 – up to 50%, peak efficiency 25%
*Note: for long term storage of biomass fuel a M/C of 12-20% is recommended to prevent freezing & composting

12 - Can I make money by selling biomass as fuel? TOP

Yes!  LEI Products is developing a network of fuel suppliers for those in need of fuel.  If you have an abundance of biomass and would like to sell it as fuel, there is a unique business opportunity available. Please contact us if you would like to know more.

13 - What is the water storage volume?TOP

BB-100 =16 gallons
BB-500 =134 gallons
(Additional storage may be added via an external storage tank if desired)

14 - Can The Bio-Burner™  be used for central heating?TOP

Yes, all burner sizes can be used in multiple ratios for heating. The units can be daisy chained for multiple configurations.
1:1 = one burner: one application
1:2+ =one burner: 2 or more applications
2+:1 =2 or more burners: one application

15 - Can I use The Bio-Burner™ with my existing heat system?TOP

Yes, it has the capability to be integrated with both hydronic and forced air systems.

16 - Can The Bio-Burner™ heat water for household use?TOP

Yes, with the use of a plate heat exchanger or a side arm heater you can have cheap hot water year round.

17 - Where do I get the Pex Supplies for plumbing?TOP

LEI Products can create a custom plumbing package for your application.  All supplies (pipes, fittings, controls, pumps, heat exchangers, etc.) needed for installing The Bio-Burner™ are available through LEI.

18 - What are some of the recommended applications for using The Bio-Burner™?TOP

  • Domestic / light industrial heating
  • Domestic hot water
  • Swimming pools / hot tubs
  • Central heating
  • Kilns
  • Fuel Processing & Drying
  • Pellet pre-processing & drying
  • Green houses
  • Tobacco barns
  • Horse Arenas
  • Skating Rinks
  • Bus Garages
  • Churches

  • Etc…

19 - Who makes The Bio-Burner™?TOP

The Bio-Burner™ is designed and manufactured by LEI Products in Madisonville, Kentucky.

20 - What are the future goals of LEI Products?TOP

The core design of The Bio-Burner™ is the foundation for CHPC – Combined Heat, Power and Cooling. Tri-Gen means that there are three by-products of the heat energy created by the burner:
1. Heat
2. Micro-Power/Electricity
3. Cooling/air conditioning
This technology will make The Bio-Burner™ self-supporting by creating its own power supply. The ability to create both heating and cooling will make The Bio-Burner™ valuable in all climates and seasons.
