Jon Satz pushed the start button on Wood’s Market Garden’s BB500 for the first time last Sunday.
The BB500 is the largest of the multi-fuel biomass boilers offered by LEI Products under the BioBurner brand. Scott Laskowski of LEI Products was on-site to walk through the startup. After a few finishing touches on the electrical end of things, the boiler was humming along and making hot water.
Jon plans to use this boiler to heat two 40′x144′ double poly greenhouses used for a variety of vegetable crops during the year. The installation will include both air and ground heating giving the grower the flexibility to adjust how the crops and the environment are heated and how moisture is controlled.

The BB500 will be run on high quality wood pellets this year while Jon finishes the rest of the system installation and gets familiar with the operation of the boiler. But the BB500 is highly versatile when it comes to fuel. There are numerous videos at the BioBurner website showing the units burning all sorts of biomass fuels. LEI Products has included advanced instrumentation and controls not normally included in boilers of this size in order to maintain strong, clean, and highly efficient combustion. This allows the user to get the most out of their fuel and minimized emissions including particulates & smoke.

NE Biomass Heating Expo 2012 Pass
The 2012 conference and expo, formerly titled Heating the Northeast with Renewable Biomass, will bring together leaders of the renewable thermal energy industry to explore the potential for real expansion of local, renewable biomass energy in the Northeast.
Exciting new program content and targeted attendee outreach will expand the conference’s engagement of residential and commercial biomass customers, as well as the broader HVAC industry.
Two years ago, a task force of industry experts presented A Bold Vision for 2025, a call to revolutionize thermal energy consumption in the six New England states and New York so that, by the year 2025, 25% of all thermal energy requirements in the Northeast are met with renewable, domestically produced resources. This year’s conference will invite members of the industry to report on the progress of this Vision, including public policy efforts, fuel and technology advancements, and market updates.

LEI has developed a mobile version of The Bio-Burner 500k BTU Burner which is now available. The unit includes The BB-500, a bulk fuel bin, propane tank, and options such as heat exchangers, generators and more. This new portable unit comes on a custom built goose-neck trailer designed especially for portable heat, demo’s, and trade-shows.

LEI Products introduces The Bio-Burner BB-500, a green biomass boiler capable of burning wet wood chips, sawdust and other biomass fuels while producing heat energy for commercial and light industrial applications.
This “missing piece” represents the need for a boiler that can burn multiple types of biomass and fill the gap in the niche market of affordable 100k – 1 million BTU multi-fuel multi-day biomass boilers, according to the company.
Heat energy is created by burning both “non-traditional” solid biomass fuels (dirty fuels, fine dust products, crop stover, etc.), which in the past have been impractical to burn due to the lack of technology, and traditional fuels (wood chips, corn, pellets, etc.). All of these fuels can be burned in the same unit; therefore, whatever fuel is available or least expensive at the time can be used with the option of changing fuel when necessary.
The Bio-Burner product line includes the BB-100, a 100K BTU (29 kw) solid biomass boiler for residential or light commercial use; the BB-500, a 500K BTU (150+kw) boiler for commercial / light industrial use; the BB-FPS, Bio-Burner Fuel Processing System, that processes fuel into a usable size and then dries the fuel with heat from the BB-500.
The BB-500 can also handle fuels with up to 50% moisture content so wet wood chips and sawdust, normally unusable as fuel, can be burned straight from a sawmill.
The Bio-Burner uses a Fuel Feed System design with new computer control technology. The Fuel Feed Systems range in size from 2 to 22 yds (1-5 tons).
